Kansas City Whiskey, bottled at 92 proof, is a blend of straight bourbon, light corn and straight rye whiskeys, all aged at least four years, with a small amount of 15-year-old oloroso sherry from Williams & Humbert Bodega in Jerez, Spain.
A few drops of water accentuate the sweetness on the palate and the spiciness on the finish, which is long and smooth with a touch of clove. Excellent!
A smooth first impression turns to a generally indiscriminate harshness that dominates the palate even after swallowing. Still, Rieger’s Kansas City Whiskey is above average for its price and would be well-suited for classic cocktails.
The whiskey is a bit lean on the mid-palate, but the finish is pleasant with bitter and sweet notes in harmony with just a splash of red fruit added for good measure.
