Renais Gin, distilled in England, is crafted from upcycled grand cru grape skins and inspired by the Watson family's vineyards in Chablis. Launched in April 2023 by actress Emma Watson and her brother Alex Watson, it features botanicals including juniper, angelica root, cubeb berries, coriander, lemon peel, whole lime slices, linden flowers, acacia honey and rock salt. It also incorporates Kimmeridgian stone, a fossilized limestone from Chablis vineyards. Renais is certified carbon-neutral, with efforts to reduce and offset its environmental impact. Bottled at 40% ABV, it is available for around $55.99.
The drinker is in for some surprises, however, as a brisk citrus quality soon becomes clear, followed by a growing, insistent sweetness. The acacia honey in the mix is no joke, providing a soothing backbone against which the aggressive herbal notes can find some rest. The finish is lightly sweet and tinged with florals again, making for a spirit that is delightful on its own but also a natural companion with tonic.
