  • Wheat whiskey can be divisive, and this bottling is probably not going to make converts out of anyone, in either direction.

  • Nose:

The nose is soft and sweet. The cask finishing influences are present but subtle. praline, buttered popcorn, white grape, sesame oil, white cake frosting, gingerbread.

  • Taste:

Nice texture — lightweight but moderately viscous. Nicely balanced body. Port is much more present here than on the nose. There’s plenty of the grape-heavy, jammy port character you’d expect, plus a soft sweet profile — cotton candy and marshmallow — as well as chestnut, toasted French bread, black tea, cherry, Lots of wheat character, and quite a bit of tannin. There’s a nice orange blossom note at play, as well, that keeps things interesting.

  • Finish:

The finish is long. It leads with wheat character, plus a bit of spice — white pepper and a touch of ginger. That light chestnutty character from the palate returns next, intertwined with a bit of oak and a tannic tea note.

  • Overall:

A playful, fun and complex expression that keeps you thinking with every sip while enjoying the dram all the while. Excellently blended.
