Redbreast Cuatro Barriles Edition is a single pot still Irish whiskey produced at Midleton Distillery and bottled at 46% ABV. It is the second permanent release in Redbreast’s Iberian Series and available exclusively at Duty Free locations in Dublin and Cork. The whiskey is made from a mashbill of malted and unmalted barley sourced from farms in Munster and distilled using water from the Dungourney River. It matures in a combination of four cask types: American ex-bourbon, Spanish oloroso sherry butts, Portuguese tawny port hogsheads and European virgin oak.
Redbreast Cuatro Barriles is very likely to please existing fans of Irish pot still whiskey. For bourbon drinkers — an international travel audience, and almost certainly a target demographic here — it’s a potential onramp to the category, with wood influence that feels at least somewhat familiar. Both the nose and finish are rich and satisfying with lots to love.
A bit shy on the nose but loads of nuance and subtlety on the palate; there is a lot here but you need to take your time, sip slowly, and pay attention.
