  • When it comes down to it, if I could choose any Redbreast to drink, it probably won’t be this one, or any of the cask-finished expressions for that matter.

  • Nose:

Extremely pleasant nose that's perfumey, sweet and absolutely jam-packed with aromas. Golden Delicious apple and pear leap out of the glass, joined by salted caramel and cookie dough.

  • Taste:

Thin to moderate mouthfeel. The palate is heavy on apple peel and mixes in honey, white pepper, soft oak, cherry pits and fluffy biscuits. A sweet, light and lovely flavor profile.

  • Finish:

The finish is long, opening with cinnamon, oak and huge Moscatel presence, which comes across light, sweet, gentle and earthy. White grape, tobacco, honey. After a while, a nice mango note emerges.

  • Overall:

A lovely expression from Redbreast. The nose is absolutely wondrous — one of the best I've encountered this year. The palate doesn't *quite* live up to it, but it's tasty and nuanced. It's delicious stuff, but the body does suffer a bit from the relatively low ABV. I could use a bit more viscosity here, but that’s a minor knock on a great whiskey. Overall: It's light, sweet and will be a perfect spring and summer sipper as the weather warms up.

  • Score:

    92
