Touted as the "rarest whiskey" ever released from the Louisville, Kentucky-based Rabbit Hole Distillery, this limited-release, cask-strength bourbon was finished in casks made from rare Japanese mizunara wood. Fewer than 2,200 bottles of this rare expression were produced. The whiskey bears a 15-year age statement, and it's bottled at 103.8 proof. Rabbit Hole first debuted a Mizunara Founder's Collection in 2020 (which was excellent), so this is the 2.0.

Heavy on the nose, loaded with caramel, toffee, coffee, black tea, honey, and pepper. Rich with plenty going on. The depth comes from more than jut tannin, and the Mizunara is a great element of addition here.
Rich on the palate, heavy and lovely with rich black tea, sandalwood, toffee and tobacco. For 51%-ish ABV, this is impressively rich and layered. There’s no real fruit component, and honestly, it’s not that peppery or spicy. It’s packed full of old bourbon notes, rich combinations of age and richness: tobacco, black tea, dates and figs, a touch of ango, sweet tea and full of caramel.
Long finish, rich and layered once more with more cream and honey on the finish, as well as old oak and less pepper and spice.
Decadent, unique and entirely delicious, this is really great stuff. The release is almost as enticing as the first release from 2020, and it’s an all-star.
