  • Water adds a bit of cocoa powder on the palate and boosts the spices on the finish, which is long and slightly dry with lingering spices and hints of molasses and brown sugar.

  • I’m not even sure I would put this in a drink: I like it too much on its own. There’s something very purely bourbon about this, like the essence of bourbon.

  • Nose:

    Citrus zest, honey, some caramel. A bit of brown sugar, rising bread, a pop of pepper and clove.

  • Taste:

    Thin to medium mouth feel. No heat. Sweet caramel, honey, vanilla bean. A little bit of oak. No immaturity though. Light spice from some pepper.

  • Finish:

    Sweet, short finish. Cocoa, caramel, roasted peanuts.

  • Overall:

    Overall, this is quite nice. Not my favorite of the distillery’s products, but it’s a strong bourbon that could duke it out with Buffalo Trace any day.
