Punt e Mes is a vermouth originally developed by Carpano in 1870, its name meaning “point and a half,” a reference to the balance of sweetness with an added half measure of bitterness. Bottled at 16% ABV, it delivers a more bitter-leaning profile than traditional sweet vermouth. Since 2001, it has been produced by Fratelli Branca Distillerie in Milan, which acquired full ownership after holding a stake since 1982. It typically retails for about $25.
On the body, bitter orange, cloves, and quinine dominate before giving way to a finish that’s loaded with coffee, cola, and ample prune notes. Hints of cinnamon, some sweeter citrus notes — both lemon and orange — and a touch of gingerbread also emerge from time to time.
Beautifully complex spices, layered with fresh citrus notes. On the palate, a delightful bittersweet balance unfolds, showcasing dark fruits and an enticing complexity, onto a pithy and bold finish.
