Preservation Estate Wheated Bourbon is distilled in pot stills by Preservation Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, and was first released in 2024. Aged about 6.5 years and bottled at 117.2 proof, it uses a mashbill of corn, wheat and dark toasted malted barley.
Preservation took their time to present us with a mature, complex whiskey, and what we got is a grand slam. I’m eager to see what the juice looks like in the years to come as they raised the bar right out of the gate.
Preservation waited until the time was right for their first estate release, and don’t let the extremely small batch nature of the product fool anyone: This is mature, exuberant whiskey — and an especially fun riff on the more typical wheated profile.
