In the mouth tropical notes continue to be showcased, with apples, bananas, and coconut joining forces with crème brûlée, butterscotch, and a hint of sherry spice that becomes more pronounced during a nice, medium finish.
It is smooth and easy like most Irish whiskies, but it is complex and rich as well. The complex spice and sherry notes are carried wonderfully on the chosen proof while you sip away at this easy drinking delight.
While it seems to be missing a bit of depth what’s there is heavy and oily and nice. It teeters on a B+ and is a good representative of how lovely, delicious and interesting Irish Whiskey can be. This is definitely one worth picking up if you’re a fan of the category.
To be sure, it’s an interesting whiskey in its own right — and quite unique — but sadly, it’s got nothing on Powers’ John’s Lane release — or even standard Powers Gold Label, for that matter.
The rich, buttery palate opens with baked pear, vanilla, raisin and toasty brioche, sliding into a clove-accented finish with just hint of smoke on the exhale.
