This is a massively potent release from Plantation, bottled at a bold 73% ABV. Do not confuse this with O.F.T.D, which is a newer release, and replaces this product in Plantations core line. This is a rum from Trinidad.
Beyond the novelty value of a 73% I see no reason why I’ll bother with another so potent Overproof rum. Definitely not for me. I would imagine an Overproof rum drinker would have one eye, a beard and a parrot on their shoulder.
The Plantation Overproof Rum is a great overproof rum. Whether just a simple rum and coke, or a more complex tiki drink, the rum mixes relatively easily into cocktails providing a nice flavourful high-octane boost. I recommend it heartily!
But beneath the burn you’ll find an awful lot of character. (Add water to bring it out a bit more clearly.) A mountain of caramel shows off classic darker rum textures,with cinnamon, cloves, raisins, and nutmeg in the finish. Lots of character, and with plenty of water it’s actually really easy to sip. In smaller quantities it’s a great choice for adding a unique spin to any number of cocktails.
