  • In regards to body, it was kind of in the middle with a longer finish. However, all in all, this was a simple, but solid whiskey.

  • There’s youthful exuberance here, for sure, but also more complexity (and fun) than I’d expected.

  • From showing really abrasive youth and malt a couple years ago, this release is a much needed 180 to that and really quite pleasant to drink.

  • The palate and nose are pleasant, but it’s the finish that really shines. It’s a perfect blend of sweetness and richness with great waves of flavors and complexity.

  • Nose:

Sweet cream, coconut shavings, vanilla bean and fresh biscuit. Light, tropical and sweet. Nice creamy sweetness without must or youth.

  • Taste:

Medium mouth feel, but a bit hot. Toffee, sweet cream, fresh baked bread, nice oak structure for the youth.

  • Finish:

Long finish but much hotter here than expected. Nice oak component, lemon, creamy sweetness and some bitter oak. Tobacco, coconut shavings, bright apple and rich pepper.

  • Overall:

This performs much better than I ever expected, in a really impressive way. From showing really abrasive youth and malt a couple years ago, this release is a much needed 180 to that and really quite pleasant to drink. I have high hopes for both Pinhook and Castle & Key here.
