  • This expression is definitely more complex that other Pendleton expressions, for the merits of its age. There’s a flow of flavor that’s not always found in Canadian whisky, and also more depth. It still does not stack up to the range of 20 year whiskies, and doesn’t seem likely to break that barrier.

  • Do I love it? No. But I know Pendleton die-hards — and any fan of very sweet whisky — will likely approve of the message the directors are selling. And that message is sugar.

  • Nose:

Sweet pancake syrup, toffee, a touch of maple and tobacco. Super sweet, light on oak, a full pancake breakfast.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel, pleasant sweetness. Maple, pepper, rich pipe tobacco and a touch of fig and apple butter. It’s sweet sweet sweet, and if that’s your jam, you’re in the right spot.

  • Finish:

Long finish, perhaps this pour’s best aspect. Maple and toffee candies once again, with a long, peppery, oaky finish.

  • Overall:

Overall, this is quite nice. It’s definitely on the sweet side and sacrifices complexity to dial up that pancake syrup character. If light on oak and big on maple are your vices, this pour is a perfect way to satisfy your craving.
