We'll be working our way through the full Patrón catalog over the next few weeks, beginning here with the brand's flagship Silver. Does it even require an introduction? Distilled at Patrón Spirits in Jalisco, Mexico, the unaged expression begins with closely trimmed highlands agaves cooked low and slow in stone ovens for up to seven days. The agaves are extracted via a combination of tahona and roller mill, fermented in pine wood tanks and finally bottled at 40% ABV.

Cuts straight to the point with aromas of clean, raw agave. Whiffs of grass, minerals, oiliness and white pepper lead the charge, followed by softer hints of lime and honeydew that add some fruitiness.
That ubiquitous black pepper note that everyone calls out in Patrón is here in droves, alongside some crunchy vegetal notes I'd liken to bell peppers. Call it a pepper extravaganza! Beyond that, the palate offers an even-keeled mix of minerality, grapefruit, lime, oregano, anise and wet earth. Nothing stands out too far from the crowd as the dominant flavor.
Medium-length finish packing plenty more of those pepper and lime notes. There's an unmistakable lick of alcohol, but it doesn't overstay its welcome.
If you're looking for a go-to mixology tequila that's available at just about every bar and Mexican restaurant in the United States, Patrón Silver won't steer you wrong. It's straight-forward, it's additive-free and it knows exactly what flavors it wants to laser focus on. Black pepper and citrus are the name of the game.
