Oxbow Estate Rhum Louisiane Cane Juice Agricole is an agricole-style rum made from fresh cane juice at Oxbow Rum Distillery in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. The distillery uses estate-grown HoCP 96-540 sugarcane, which is crushed on-site and fermented for 36 hours before distillation on a Vendome pot and column hybrid still. It's bottled unaged at 90 proof and sells for around $50.
Sipped neat, this is an enjoyable detour from unaged molasses-based rum and a solid introduction to fresh cane distillation. It performs even better in cocktails, particularly a Ti’ Punch. Made with agricole-style rhum, cane syrup, and a lime coin, the drink allows the rum’s green, fruity elements to shine, with the lime enhancing rather than covering what’s already there.
