This is a revisit of a spirit we've tried once before and had the opportunity to revisit on a fresh palate. This past month's Maguey Melate box came with a 50-ml sample of this, so the stage was set just right. Distilled from cenizo on copper, this comes to us as a brand headed by Asis Cortes.

  • This is a unique combination of flavors I've found in a lot of other Mezcals. Super interesting as the glass went on to become drier while preserving some fruity sweetness.

  • [Second tasting] Lovely and complex, this is really something. I’m all over it.

  • Nose:

Sweet and roasty, lots of pineapple, apple, roasted corn and pepper. Lovely minerality here, faintly floral, some nice cream.

  • Taste:

Thin to medium mouth feel on the palate. Sweet honey, light almond, nice pepper and a papaya note that is really enticing. Faint pepper, light bubblegum.

  • Finish:

Long, rich and loaded with fruit and sweet notes. Pineapple, mango, papaya, vanilla cream, faint bubble gum.

  • Overall:

Lovely and complex, this is really something. I’m all over it.
