Olta is part of an uncommon category: Mexican whisky. Double-distilled from a mashbill of 80% corn and 20% malt in Michoacán, Mexico, Olta Whisky is a 3-year-old whisky available in states including Colorado, California, Texas and Florida. It's aged three years and has a suggested retail price of $55. Olta also says it's available in a "fast growing list of Latin American restaurants nationwide."
"Olta was inspired by my daughter's half-Mexican and half-Irish heritage. I wanted to create a spirit that celebrates the beauty of blending cultures while showcasing the incredible versatility of Mexican ancestral corn. Whiskey became the perfect bridge, a way to honor tradition, innovation, and pride in a single bottle,” Olta founder and CEO Selene Nestor says. “Olta is more than just a spirit; it's a tribute to heritage, community, and craftsmanship. Every sip carries that story, and I'm proud to say it stands apart as something truly unique in the world of whiskey."
According to the brand, 4-year and 7-year expressions are planned to release in 2026.

Super distinctive nose. It’s light and oily, with notes of honey, lemon, tea, biscuits, balsamic and agave.
Moderate mouthfeel. A hit of agave syrup is joined by a sort of a rubbery, gritty smoky note that’s almost reminiscent of peat.
Ash, nectarine, pepper.
My first impression of Olta is that it's distinctive but unspectacular; young but has a memorable flavor profile. Of course, if there exists a 3-year-old whiskey bottled at 80 proof that's excellent, I have yet to taste it, so it's not as if I had high expectations coming up here. I hope to taste more of this brand as its age statements grow and, hopefully, its proof points do, too.
