Smooth Ambler Old Scout 5 Year Old Single Barrel is a high-rye bourbon crafted in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Produced with a mashbill of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malt, it is distilled using a continuous column still and aged for five years. Proof varies.
I too lament the absence of the old Old Scout line, but if this young-ish single barrel is any indication, we may be in for an even better evolution this go around.
There are no surprises here and it definitely isn’t “Top Shelf” bourbon, but I’m not disappointed because this is just the start and it’s going to get better with age. This isn’t a must have, but you probably won’t regret purchasing this either, especially if you need your SAOS fix.
