  • While I wouldn't mind having it bottled at a higher proof, it's packed with flavor and works very well as is.

  • Nose:

This bourbon is deep and sweet on the nose — so fragrant and powerfully sweet I might mistake it for a cask-finished bourbon (cognac, perhaps) — with notes of cola, vanilla, caramel, Luxardo cherry, sweet corn, sassafras and some baking spice.

  • Taste:

Old Forester Extra Extra Old has a moderate mouthfeel and a sweet, delectable flavor profile built around an oaky spine, with some flecks of rye spice. Cornbread, cherry, banana peel, milk chocolate, gingerbread and cinnamon.

  • Finish:

The finish kicks off with a spiced coffee note — think a latte topped with cinnamon dusting — and then transitions into a sweeter profile with maple candied pecans.

  • Overall:

A well balanced, lovely, flavorful bourbon. While I wouldn't mind having it bottled at a higher proof, it's packed with flavor and works very well as is.

  • Score:
