  • I wasn't too impressed with this on my first tasting, but on taste No. 2, once the liquid was given some time to breathe? Totally different story.

  • Nose:

Sweet, deep and dark on the nose. Cherry cordial, molasses, cinnamon, clove, raspberry, mocha

  • Taste:

Heavy oak with some smoked character, a big anise note, bright cherry, clove-studded orange, caramel, powdered ginger, walnuts, dark chocolate, espresso, oak, tannin and fresh mint leaves.

  • Finish:

The finish is long and brooding: Lots of char, ash and coffee beans, plus maple, cacao, smoke and a touch of peppermint.

  • Overall:

I wasn't too impressed with this on my first tasting, but on taste No. 2, once the liquid was given some time to breathe? Totally different story. It's bright at some moments and pitch-dark at others. Coffee and dark chocolate meet sweetness and lovely spice. This is a delicious and distinctive rye whiskey.
