This is a limited edition revival of the Old Fitzgerald bottling by Heaven Hill. Produced in batches, in a limited release format, this 13yr wheated bourbon carries the bottled in bond designation and can be found in a fairly attractive decanter bottle. Let's dive in.
This is not the most complex bourbon you will find, but there are plenty of rich and well-developed flavors throughout the sip and everything fits together nicely to create a cohesive pour.
I also make no excuses for how mid I think that the majority of 8, 9, 10 and even the 11-year-old Old Fitz Decanters were. But this bottle delivers a glimpse into a wheated bourbon that really has what it takes to stand up to the likes of the Van Winkle lineup. That’s not something I’d normally say.
Really nice from start to finish. I could easily drink this all day, and probably all night as well. The proof is right, each aspect is just right, and this could trade punches with WLW any day.
Think of it as a wonderful Sunday evening night cap whiskey, perhaps while reading a whiskey review or two. Great flavors that are simple and relaxing, resting gently on the palate as it finishes.
And make no mistake, if you do find yourself in possession of this release, make sure you do yourself a favor and crack the bottle open. As great as the bourbon looks in its throwback decanter, it will taste even better in your glass.

House Review
Nose:
Rich honey, toffee and sugar cookies. Light in ethanol, though it smells like there are some nice tannins hiding out. Sweet overall, not too spicy or fruity - lots of caramel.
Taste:
Thick and rich. Loads of maple syrup, honey, toffee and cookie dough. Faint fruits like blueberry, cherry and raspberry. Nice oak structure, the tannins give the sweetness something to hold on to. Heat is very much in check.
Finish:
Long, sweet and a hair dry. Oak presence is just about right, with some caramel, coffee, toffee and faint cherry. This is drastically improved over earlier releases of this series.
Overall:
Really nice from start to finish. I could easily drink this all day, and probably all night as well. The proof is right, each aspect is just right, and this could trade punches with WLW any day. I haven't tried Larceny Barrel Proof, I sure hope it's as good, or close, as this release (since it's a bit more available) but I have doubts. That said, I think this is a winner of a release - it's excellent bourbon from nose to tail.
