Distilled by Greg Metze at MGP in Indiana and bottled by Greg Metze at Old Elk in Colorado, this release of Straight Wheat Whiskey was matured for 6 years and bottled at 50% ABV.
As a whiskey geek, this is super-interesting juice. I just wish I liked it more. Regardless, I’m curious to see where someone of Metze’s talent can take this, and how it will develop in the years ahead.
As of this 2020 release, the dial might be tweaked a touch too far to the sweet side of things for some, but at this exact moment in my life, it’s really hitting the spot.
At 50% ABV, this Wheat Whiskey is as good or better than other contenders on the market, and for those who may be a bit salty they can't find a particular Buffalo Trace Wheater - I tell you this is superior. Get this instead.

House Review
Nose:
Sweet honey, toffee, creme brulee. A light bit of cinnamon, peach rings, a hint of cream. Lovely and sweet, with a tiny dash of oak.
Taste:
Moderate mouthfeel, no heat. Sweet cream, caramel corn, toffee and oak. There's a good bit of oak which helps offset the great sweetness that comes from the wheat.
Finish:
Long finish. A great complexity between the sweet caramel, cream, nutmeg notes and some bold oak, pepper and cocoa.
