  • I felt the whisky was held back a bit by the airy nose, which is an odd thing to say of a much stronger than usual Scotch. The rest of the experience, though, was lovely and rewarding.

  • But the sum is much greater than the parts here, and American scotch whisky fans should pick this bottle up and give it a try, whether they are already fans of one of Diageo’s smallest distilleries or newcomers to this scrappy operation.

  • Nose:

Pleasant and sherried on the nose. A big sourdough bread note is joined by lots of sherried fruit character, plus honeycomb, papaya and marzipan.

  • Taste:

Lovely viscosity on the palate. Soft oak meets buttered rolls, tobacco, orange blossom, figs, cinnamon, honey, hazelnut and white pepper.

  • Finish:

The finish leads with a big hit of sweet tobacco, plus oak, pepper, cinnamon and honey.

  • Overall:

This is a gorgeous, well-aged, sherried malt. Fruity and nutty notes are joined by umami and earthy undertones. The result is exquisite, complex and easy to sip.

  • Score:

    93
