Nikka Super Rare Old is a Japanese blended whisky first launched by Nikka in 1962. Bottled at 43% ABV, it features a blend of single malt from Yoichi, single malt and grain from Miyagikyo.
The palate is rather light, with the honey continuing through, as some delicate citrus, pear, and banana make a brief appearance. Spice leads to the finish, which is medium-short. An easy-drinking blend, but not much else
This has the unfortunate impact of turning that smoky sweet combination a bit astringent on the finish, with notes of canned green beans and aluminum foil lingering on an otherwise straightforward, ungodly sweet beauty.
