Nikka Session is a blended malt whisky combining Japanese malts from Nikka’s Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries with Scotch malt from Ben Nevis in the Highlands. Bottled at 43% ABV with no age statement, it was originally priced under $40 in Japan but now typically sells for $100–200 in Western markets.
Despite my low expectations, I really enjoyed Nikka Sessions. It’s a fantastic pour at the price point and might be one of the best examples of brilliant Japanese blending at any price point. I will happily reach for this over Suntory Ao any day of the week and I look forward to grabbing another bottle next time I’m in Japan
