Released in October 2025, this is the fourth Single Estate release from Mount Gay, the world’s oldest running rum distillery. Crafted by Master Blender Trudiann Branker, this is a blend of rums produced from the 2019 Mount Gay Estate sugar cane harvest in Saint Lucy, Barbados. Blended from 100% double-pot-distilled Barbadian Mount Gay molasses, this rum was aged for five years in ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at 55% ABV. It has a suggested retail price of $350.

Powerful and intriguing — a great start to the pour. Traditional sweet rum notes are present but don't dominate. There’s a big, gritty, rubbery (complimentary) note that interestingly reminds me of a peated scotch, pairing nicely with soft, fluffy sweet and tropical fruit notes. Grilled mango, mint, butterscotch, horseradish.
Moderate to rich mouthfeel that coats the tongue nicely. Delicious and nuanced on the palate. Pear, apple and mango are soon joined by a soft, sweeter profile of coconut and sugar cookies. All the while, the darker, heavier profile that once again reminds me of peat influence — rubber, tobacco, coffee ground — hangs around. It’s really a lovely balance of notes; diametrically opposed profiles coexist without ever stepping on the toes of one another.
The finish is grassy and very long. Grassiness, pear, vanilla and a huge sugarcane note; I truly feel like I’m sucking on sugarcane as the finish winds down. Then, after a while, a big funky tropical hit comes through.
A beautiful, uber-complex rum. It’s sweet, tropical, grassy and earthy all at once. This is a true treat. With the holidays coming up, if you love someone enough to pay the $350 asking price, this will make for a fantastic gift for any rum (or peated scotch!) lover in your life.
