Distilled by Mount Gay and aged for 20 years before an additional year of PX Sherry finishing, this is the newest Master Blender series release from the brand. Admittedly, this is some pretty old rum, so it will be interesting to see how such an intense varietal of sherry interacts with the Barbados rum. Let's dig in!

Bold and bold on the nose, tons of molasses, maple, barrel char, a touch of honey, sweet raisins and tobacco. The fruitiness of the PX pops a bit with that raisin bread note but it doesn't feel cloying on the nose so far.
Moderate mouthfeel, the tannin here isn't absurd which was a surprise - 20 years of tropical aging is no joke. Sweet caramels, a touch of drying, bitter oak. Rich apple butter, cherry cordial, additional raisin bread notes and a touch of old pipe tobacco. The PX is well integrated, bringing a touch of sweetness on the back palate and plenty of richness with fruit on the palate.
Long finish, arguably the cornerstone feature of this pour. The finish lasts for a good long while, presenting brown butter, toffee, more pipe tobacco and raisin bread sweetness.
An unusual release, it's a novelty in and of itself, with a lot of great character to truly present an interesting pour that drinks easy and leaves an impression. Consider my fears of overoaking assuaged - this is an awesome pour.
