Paul John Mithuna Indian Single Malt Whisky is produced in Goa, India, by Paul John Distillery. It is bottled at 58% ABV and priced at $300. Part of the brand’s Zodiac Range, this whisky is matured in first-fill American virgin oak and finished in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels.
There’s a youthful brashness at the core of the spirit, but it’s filtered through so many exotic flavors that it’s hard not to be enchanted by it — though I suspect its odd construction might not be for everyone.
One of my favorite tastings in a long time, Mithurna by Paul John is a special occasion spirit. It is on the expensive side, but there is a complexity of flavors that elevate the whisky from an ordinary tasting to a unique one
The afterglow in my glass is an oak bomb which is impressive for a five year old whiskey. This is an enjoyable bold complex whiskey which really surprised me.
Just like a Gemini! Exciting, strong, not afraid to put her strengths but also cover those with soft touches. Paul John Mithuna does a very well job of taking you on a journey of big flavors and then soothing you with gentle aromas.
While Paul John Mithuna isn’t my favorite PJ of all time it’s up there… way up there. The herbal character is as alluring as it is interesting and working through the layers with a bit of water turns an after-work dram into an evening of exploration.
