Inspired by the fields and forests surrounding the distillery in Roxbury, Connecticut, Mine Hill Distillery Gin is made using a neutral base spirit vapor-infused with eight botanicals, including black walnut, hawthorn berry and nutmeg. Bottled at 82 proof, it hosts a suggested retail price of $45.99.
The gin surprises as it’s far spicier on the palate than on the nose, a bracing note of red pepper muscling around an otherwise floral-heavy character that’s laden with notes of roses especially.
Mine Hill Gin combines local grains and local botanicals to create something that reads more like “warm summer day in a pine forest” than some of the more traditional associations that come with Eastern Pine. Fans of Martinis and contemporary-style gins with a strong pine component will find a lot to like about Mine Hill Gin.
