An enigmatic release from the PM Spirits gang, 2022 sees Mic Drop releasing whiskey that's perhaps unlike any other. Proceeds from this release are donated to gun safety initiatives in the United States, with a sticker price of $400. Distilled at an undisclosed distiller in Louisville, KY, this release features 7 years of aging, distilled from 60% corn, 13% oats, 17% wheat and 10% barley. They can't tell us who made it, but it's noted as doubled distilled on a Vendome copper pot still. This mashbill matches the work of a certain French Lick fella, and the copper pot still clue points us to Louisville's very own Copper & Kings. Perhaps a pilot distillation by a particular Bishop before a move north across the river? I'm certain of it.

  • Overall this sounds bizarre on paper but more than works in practice. Wonderfully complex and a whiskey that's unique and just as easy to enjoy as any heritage release has ever been.

  • Nose:

Beautifully rich on the nose, there's plenty of caramel, supple malty character, butter cream and a drizzle of honey. Sweet, inviting.

  • Taste:

Rich on the palate. A touch of heat. Packed with toffee, a touch of tobacco, sesame seeds, malted milk balls and cocoa, a delicious integration of oak and a faint blackberry undertone.

  • Finish:

Long finish, butterscotch, sourdough, fresh corn bread, tobacco and sweet maple combine for an interesting, complex pour that gets easier to drink with each sip.

  • Overall:

Overall this sounds bizarre on paper but more than works in practice. Wonderfully complex and a whiskey that's unique and just as easy to enjoy as any heritage release has ever been.
