Mezcal Güey

Mezcal Güey hit the market in early 2025 with a funky pastel-hued label and a wallet-friendly price tag. Distilled in San Dionisio Ocotopec, Oaxaca, the spirit comprises a blend of Espadín and Cuishe agave roasted for four days before extracting with a horse-drawn mill. This is being marketed as an accessible, workhorse mezcal, an interesting and somewhat rare choice for an ensamble (mezcal blend) in this day and age.

Classic, smoky mezcal through and through. Tons of pineapple and pineapple rind, lime zest, ash and a mineral, sort of lactic funk note reminiscent of limestone.
Grapefruit, lemon, tilled earth and crunchy bell peppers. A nice if somewhat subdued balance between sweet and herbaceous notes. The mouthfeel tingles with sparkly minerality and pangs of pine needles.
Ash, confectioners' sugar and mango combine for a medium-length finish. A lot of that smoke from the nose swings back around to make its presence known.
Simple and effective. Provides a little bit of everything you'd expect from a sub-$60 mezcal. As a cocktail mixer, this will add a nice combination of smoke and citrus right at home within your next Margarita or Paloma. A great choice for the bar cart.
