  • It’s a bit doughy on the finish, but otherwise it acquits itself well, with a light saline note that pairs well with the cracker freshness up front.

  • McConnell's isn't the most complex Irish whiskey you may stumble across, but it's adequately aged, pleasantly complex and devoid of harsh graininess found in other similar releases.

  • Nose:

Light and sweet on the nose, full of honey, toffee, sweet apple pie and a touch of grain. Inoffensive, pleasant, lightly desserty.

  • Taste:

On the palate, the buttery texture is immediately striking, full and soft, full of sweet dessert character and a touch of youth. Pie crust, brown butter, toffee and light apple and grain.

  • Finish:

Finish is short but pleasant — certainly not a sin here. The apple and pastry notes continue, flaky and buttery and sweet

  • Overall:

McConnell's isn't the most complex Irish whiskey you may stumble across, but it's adequately aged, pleasantly complex and devoid of harsh graininess found in other similar releases. Whether you're a sipper or a shooter, McConnell's delivers just fine.
