Distilled at MB Roland Distillery in Pembroke, Kentucky, this Kentucky straight bourbon was distilled from a mashbill of 78% corn, 17% rye and 5% malted barley, aged five years and bottled at 96 proof. Just 218 bottles were released, priced at $79.99 per 700-milliliter bottle. The barrel was picked by the MaltyVerse team, which claims this is a rare find since MB Roland rarely sells barrels of aged whiskey. MaltyVerse is a whiskey project that "combines limited-edition whiskies and comic adventure with creative stories and custom illustrations," in the words of the brand.

Distinctive nose. It's musty and yeasty with an interesting acidic, fruity character. Peanut brittle, cherry, a hint of vinegar, roasted corn, pepitas.
Moderate viscosity. A big cornbread note is joined by cherry, charred pecans, oak, lemon rind, butterscotch, barbecue smoke and dusty grains. This certainly has a distinctive flavor profile, and I'm digging it. That mustiness from the nose is still here, but that acidic profile has parted ways in favor of more of a smoky and dusty profile.
Pecans, butterscotch, milk chocolate, cornbread and cherry linger on a very long finish.
This is really distinctive, so I'd expect opinions on it to vary, but I'm really enjoying it. Nice pick, MaltyVerse!
