Malibu Original is a sugarcane syrup-based white rum blended with coconut liqueur. Originally launched as Coco Rico in 1978 and rebranded as Malibu in 1980, it was initially distilled in Barbados but is now produced primarily in Canada, with some production in the U.S. and Spain.
It’s all very light and surprisingly fresh, not cloying nor syrupy in the slightest. In fact, at times Malibu can come across as a bit watery, a side effect of its mere 21% abv, but when whipped into a cocktail, no one ever notices. As harmless as it gets.
