Standing between two approaching trains - one of sweet wine and the other of aggressive peat - can seem like a poor space to inhabit, but the 2007 Longrow Single Cask ensures that is precisely where you want to be. Excellent collision of sweet wine, spirity Campbeltown base spirit and a peat character that never back down. Buy two, one for now, and one for 6 months from now when your first is drained.
Distilled in 2007 and bottled in 2019, this first fill Sauternes wine maturation Longrow should be quite interesting. Produced under the Springbank umbrella, and bottled at cask strength with no coloring or filtering, I'm really looking forward to this one. Let's get to it.

Rich wine, honey and pralines. No peat on the nose, a hint of grain. Some buttery biscuit, toffee candies and caramels play nicely with the wine character. Ethanol is nowhere to be found.
Rich and oily on the palate - syrupy and decadent. Coats the palate nicely, and the ethanol is present but in its place. Sweet creamy wine, lots of grape, toffee and praline. The peat is present and much more vibrant here - some stewed fruits, burning wood, minerality and a hint of ash. Well qualified pepper character keeps the sweetness in check.
Long finish, rich with both wine and that Longrow malt character I love so much. Heat tapers nicely, letting the warm sourdough, sweet date fruit and supple wine character shine.
Excellent from start to finish, this bottling demands attention and holds it nicely. Great balance of sweetness, peat and malt. Huge fan.
