Longmorn 16 Years Old is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky produced at Longmorn Distillery in Elgin, Morayshire. Introduced in 2007, this bottling replaced the previous 15 year old expression and is aged in ex-sherry and traditional oak barrels. Bottled at 48% ABV without chill-filtration, it sells for around $125.
It’s a surprise on the palate as things take a sharp 90-degree turn with big notes of spice and wood cancelling out most of the upfront sweetness, setting up a long, lingering combination of oats and wood on the finish. Nothing offensive or foul here, but it certainly pales in comparison to the engaging nose.
