Lock Stock & Barrel 20 Year Rye is a limited release distilled in Pennsylvania from a 100% rye mashbill. Double pot distilled and unfiltered, the whiskey aged 20 years in new charred American oak barrels in cold-weather conditions and is bottled at 56% ABV. A 750ml format retails for around $449.99.
That price point absolutely demands the liquid inside the bottle to be transcendent, and I can’t say that about this one. Like the last few years of Orphan Barrel’s Rhetoric series of extra-aged bourbons, be aware that you’re definitely paying for an age statement here.
The rye spice is not too hot and is balanced with the ABV so it does not burn. I’m really impressed and find few faults with this whiskey, but I cannot say I have ever not enjoyed a dram of Lock, Stock, & Barrel. As for the price, you are paying for the age statement, but it is a fair deal, so buy a bottle if you find it.
