Produced in Washington, Pennsylvania, Liberty Pole Spirits Old Monongahela Full Proof Rye Whiskey is bottled at 108 proof. The mashbill includes 61% rye, 13% wheat, 13% rye malt and 13% barley malt. Made with a high-rye mashbill, it is sweet mashed, batch distilled and aged at a barrel entry proof of 108.
The taste is a full earthy Vanilla mash, sweet dates, cinnamon spice and more sweet oak notes dusted with a hint of mocha. It reminds me of a polish pudding from my childhood, “budyń waniliowy” which my mom and aunt Jean would make us when I was a kid. The finish is delightfully warming, medium long with more sweet oak wood, a touch of earthiness and cinnamon sprinkles.
Though it bends the meaning of what is now considered an Old Monongahela Rye, Mango Creek Craft Distillers once again offers a rye that is thoroughly unique tasting.
