Ledaig 1998 DL is a 23-year single cask single malt from Tobermory, bottled by Douglas Laing for the XOP Black Series. Distilled in April 1998 and bottled in September 2021, it matured in a refill sherry butt and was released at cask strength 64% ABV.
The flavor profile was rich with a lovely meatiness and roasty caramelization that only slowly revealed hints of salty cheese rind. I loved the structure of this malt as new layers appeared and merged as the flavors shifted like smoke between the lights. I know I quibbled about value, but there was no question as to the quality of this malt.
