Distilled at Tobermory using peated malt, this 13yr bottling of Ledaig was done by SMWS after 13 years of maturation in a second fill ex-bourbon cask. This was bottled at cask strength, with no coloring or filtering. Review 1500, I guess that's a nice little milestone...let's dive in.

  • Delightful and delicious but slightly blemished by the punishing ethanol. Still quite excellent, but I'd give this one some extra rest to sit in your dram before diving in.

  • Nose:

Sweet, buttery apples. Fresh baked bread, cake, honey, toffee. Decadent but pedestrian. Loaded with tar and ash. This profile is classic Ledaig, in a great way.

  • Taste:

Rich, so buttery. Creamy and laden with toffee, caramel, cream and honey. Heat is there, and quite hot. Cake batter and cookie dough. Really lacking in the tar, but making up for it with funky cheese notes that I'm a fan of. Nose was on profile, palate is a different story.

  • Finish:

Long, fairly hot but delightful. Fresh baked bread, minerality, cake, honey and toasted almond. Some minerality, some ash. Delightful, if you can take the heat.

  • Overall:

Delightful and delicious but slightly blemished by the punishing ethanol. Still quite excellent, but I'd give this one some extra rest to sit in your dram before diving in.
