Leblon Cachaça is crafted at Destillerie Maison Leblon in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The cane is hand-harvested from nearby fields, pressed and fermented for 20 to 24 hours. It undergoes single-batch distillation in Alambique copper pot stills before resting for up to six months in vintage XO Cognac casks from France. Finally, the batches are blended, filtered and bottled.
If you’re looking for textbook cachaça, Leblon is as close as I’ve come to finding something that exhibits the highlights and the curiosities about this intriguing sugar cane spirit.
If you’re into French island rhums, and younger, rawer, more untamed spirits, and love your cocktails, well, sooner or later you’ll come to cachaças, yes. But not necessarily this one.
