Hibiscus, stewed berries and tons of cloves. All feel quite authentic. In comparison to the floaty, artificial scent of many an alcoholic product, this could easily be misconstrued for a smoothie teeming with fresh ingredients. It's a great start.
Surprisingly thick on the palate, a sharp contrast to herbed and floral flavors of rhubarb, rose petals, orange rind and Fuji apple. The defining note is once again clove, but it doesn't overstay its welcome in the slightest. The balance between bitter and sweet elements is pulled off quite well with a slight preference for the latter.
Sticks to the gums and back of the throat with a mild astringency. The finish itself is brief, carrying flavors of rhubarb and gentian root.
This is more or less the same product as Lapo's NA Negroni, albeit with a fuller mouthfeel and stronger punch of clove and gentian root. That said, the brand sure knows how to hone it formula. It's wonderfully juicy, tactfully spiced and — rarely do I say this for nonalcoholic spirit alternatives — can easily be sipped on its own. Would love to see what Lapo's could do with a Fernet or a Chartreuse.
