  • The core of the whisky is, of course, peat smoke, and that means smoldering campfire, rubbery iodine, and charred chilis on the palate.

  • Between the proof and the peat, it certainly is not be for everyone. But that's your thing — this is lovely stuff.

  • Nose:

The nose is smoky, with powerful peat smoke, iodine, menthol and ash, plus sweet cream, graham cracker and a lovely browned butter note that emerges after a little time in the glass.

  • Taste:

Uber-smoky profile with peat that's at times campfire, at others medicinal, joined by notes of clove, apple, vanilla, cacao, espresso and tobacco.

  • Finish:

Long finish that's rubbery (in a lovely way), with campfire smoke galore, that slips in some light fruit like cherry and plum and apple on the way out, plus grape leaves and burnt popcorn.

  • Overall:

This is a beautiful scotch for fans of intense peat. Between the proof and the peat, it certainly is not be for everyone. But that's your thing — this is lovely stuff.

  • Score:

    93
