Lágrimas del Valle is a relatively new single-estate project produced at the Tequila Cascahuín distillery. Each year, the brand harvests agaves from a different ranch with an eye for differences in terroir and regionality. For its 2024 Blanco, Lágrimas tracked down plants in Michoacán, brought them back to Jalisco and distilled the spirit using a mix of tahona and roller mill extraction alongside open-air fermentation. Intriguing stuff, doubly so considering this is bottled at 46% ABV.

Really dense on the nose, stuffed with tons of cooked agave, earth and fresh mint. There are some hibiscus-like floral notes, pangs of orange and cantaloupe and a subtle spiced character. A wide range of aromas you rarely find in the same place in a blanco tequila.
Gorgeous mouthfeel zips in every direction. Roasted agave and saline minerality make there presence known at first sip, giving way to flavors of grapefruit, almonds, grass and little barnyard funk.
Cinnamon and citrus pith combines for a warm, medium-long finish. A touch of peach adds welcome sweetness.
This is my first time trying Lágrimas del Valle and it certainly won't be my last. I don't always walk away from single-estate tequilas convinced of their difference versus the regular fare, but the attention to detail absolutely shows here. It's complex, roasty, herbaceous and mouth-smackingly fruity in equal parts. Everything you'd want from a great blanco.
