Koshi-no Shinobu Blended Whisky is made at Shinobu Distillery in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The blend contains 50% malt whisky and 50% grain whisky that are aged in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks before finishing in Japanese Mizunara oak. It is bottled at 43% ABV with no added coloring and sells for around $50-70.
On the palate, said malt is initially quite heavy, with a strong edge of sherry-driven citrus character. It isn’t long, though, until a surprising chocolate character starts to take over, growing stronger as the finish builds.
Upon tasting Shinobu Per Blended it was a it simple in flavor. It was sour and malty with a salty aftertaste. Final Thoughts: I dont think I've ever tasted a whisky that was salty with hints of the sea like this one. It didn't taste like a complex whisky but a very unique one. The favors remind me of a simple scotch that you're sipping at waters edge.
Perfumed and exotic seasoned woods, butterscotch, sandalwood, manuka honey, pepper, gentle clove, charred oak, and hints of dried cherry and strawberry on the nose. This is superb, with a smooth oily mouthfeel and deep reserves of fruitiness.
