  • Quite nice, but [2013] outshines it by a noticeable margin.

  • Sherry notes fight the smoke to emerge, but the smoke simply dominates. A smoky, ashy, spicy, and dry finish round out a face-slapper of a whisky.

  • Not exactly a subtle whisky, but rather a pure essence of Islay, filtered through a sherry haze.

  • This is certainly complex, but lacks the balance of some other similar casks I've had from Kilchoman. That said, its still damn enjoyable.

  • Nose:

Raw abrasive, fungal vegetal peat. Really bold and brash. Light stewed fruits. Pepper, honey, rotting things.

  • Taste:

Medium mouth feel. Some ethanol. Sweet jammy fruits. Vanilla, honey. Light pepper. Then the ashy pepper peat swoops in. Rich, but potent, fungal peat. Less ash, more iodine.

  • Finish:

Long, rich, potent and sweet. Vanilla, burning rubber, fig, cherry, currant. Charcoal, soapstone, smoldering ash.

  • Overall:

This is certainly complex, but lacks the balance of some other similar casks I've had from Kilchoman. That said, its still damn enjoyable.
