Kanosuke Single Malt 2023 Limited Edition was distilled from peated malt in 2018 and 2019, then matured in ex-shochu and ex-sherry casks before bottling in 2023. Produced by Kanosuke Distillery in Japan, this single malt comes in 700ml bottles at 59% ABV and retails for around $299.99.
An interesting release and my favorite Kanosuke so far! It was no one-trick pony as it combined peated and unpeated malt with shochu and sherry casks. Though it featured peated malt, I did not get much in the way of smoke or char. Was that the sasparilla and licorice notes I picked up?
Effortlessly drinkable at cask strength, with flavors of chocolate chip, raisin, cherry, and smoke, with sweeter milk chocolate, juicy sultana, and mixed peel notes emerging. The finish brings milk chocolate, cinnamon, and raspberry jam doughnut filling.
