Kanosuke Single Malt Japanese Whisky is made at Kanosuke Distillery in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, using three different copper pot stills with unique neck shapes and lyne arm angles. The whisky is aged in a combination of re-charred American oak casks that previously held Mellowed Kozuru rice shochu, ex-bourbon barrels and sherry casks. It is bottled at 48% ABV and sells for around $100.
Excellent entry with a light sweetness and malty richness that acts as the canvas to lighter notes of caramel, sponge cake, toasted pecan and mild black tea. Great body and terrific finish. Well done.
Overall it’s wholly enjoyable, though it’s so mellow and approachable, you risk drinking far more than you intended to if you’re left with an open bottle.
