Each year, Jura hosts the "Tastival" whisky festival at its distillery on the Isle of Jura and releases an exclusive Tastival whisky. This is 2017's Tastival expression. It was aged in American ex-bourbon barrels and ruby port pipes and bottled at 102 proof.

  • Pleasant enough. This Jura Tastival release is great, albeit less so than 2016's. That said, it still reaches high, and that’s a win for my palate and yours.

  • Nose:

Lightly phenolic and full of honey, apricot, pear, honey and a touch of light breadiness.

  • Taste:

Nice viscosity on the palate — lighter than 2016's Tastival expression. Honey, plums, toffee. A lot less dank and funk than the 2016 edition and much more “typical” with the ex-bourbon vibes riding strong.

  • Finish:

Long finish with a hint of pepper and sulfur, sweet honey, tobacco and a touch of caramel.

  • Overall:

Pleasant enough. This Jura Tastival release is great, albeit less so than 2016's. That said, it still reaches high, and that’s a win for my palate and yours.
