This blended Scotch, “matured in deep-charred old oak casks” features intensely smoky aromas and flavors, although honey sweetness and mellow almond peek through.
The grain whiskies that are part of this blend allows sweetness to come through the smoke. Actually, this release wouldn’t be a bad way to introduce a new scotch drinker to a smoky expression.
This has depth and richness, flavor and character that you do not see in their standard line of scotch. It might be younger but it is a definite improvement.
While this seems to have become a Johnnie Walker staple and is targeted to customers searching for a robust smoky experience I have found it a little underwhelming in contrast to the marketing.
